"From Sifting to Serenity"

Christ began to show me an aspect of himself. He taught me how to suffer. Isaiah 45:3: "I will give you hidden riches in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.'' My sifting was an invitation to know Christ better — an opportunity to love him more. When we grow in our relationships, we learn more about each other. It is the same in our relationship with God. The Lord gave me the grace to accept pain. When was the last time you asked God what was on his heart? We have a way of coming to him with a list of demands, but He desires to dialogue with us.

There was a sweet fellowship of sharing our suffering together. This changed my relationship with the Lord and brought peace and wisdom to my life. I left the list behind and learned to take simple, short steps of obedience. And with each step, He would meet me. I learned to trust Him, not man. I learned to forgive. In the end, the Lord did a mighty work. The lessons I learned about God could not have been discovered any other way. I learned to seek the counsel of the Lord. I learned how to listen and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit. In time, I realized that walking through the valley of darkness was a gift. That was where I met the man who knew my sorrow and who led me to a wide-open space.
